Tradition, Institution, Regularity, Formality, Elegance, Zeal, Fidelity. These describes the traits that Bro. Thomas Macaluso strives to demonstrate. While working tools in Freemasonry are often overly embellished and not built for the purpose, I wanted to make a gavel an idealized functional representation of a often under appreciated working tool. A setting maul is not a tool of brute force but rather a tool for encouraging that which does not want to conform, to conform!
The construction of this setting maul is made from a solid piece of Texas Honey Mesquite. The inlay for the Maul is cut from brass with the valuable assistance of Marc Hammons, owner of MahaCobo and took many long hours to create.
