Brief Meaning of Memento Mori

Memento Mori and the symbol of the Skull suggests a well-lived life. A life in which we did things we wanted to do, and in the process, left things in better shape than they were before we arrived. It is so called because it is a reminder of our own mortality.

To the Freemason, the prospect of death serves to emphasize the emptiness and fleetingness of earthly pleasures, luxuries, and achievements, and thus also as an invitation to focus one’s thoughts on the prospect of the afterlife.
